B.S.Ed. in Special Education — Deaf Education

Program Information

The B.S.Ed. in Special Education-Deaf Education provides initial certification in special education deaf education. The program prepares undergraduates to teach students in grades P-12 who are deaf or hard of hearing in a variety of educational settings. Teacher candidates develop a broad range of skills to be prepared to teach in programs which focus on the development of spoken language skills, the use of a visual language (either American Sign Language or English-based signs) or a combination of both in order to meet the needs of the individual child. Graduates are provided coursework and practicum experiences resulting in knowledge of characteristics, curriculum, instructional strategies, and classroom management procedures.

Suggested Schedule of Courses

This is a suggested 4-year schedule of courses based on degree requirements in the current catalog.  This guide is not a substitute for academic advisement — contact your advisement office if you have any questions about scheduling or about your degree requirements.  Also see the Undergraduate Catalog for a complete list of requirements and electives to choose from.

Students may choose to attend a summer term to reduce their load during fall or spring semesters but still stay on track to graduate in four years. Note that for the Special Education, Deaf Education program, attending summer term is necessary after Year 3.
