Description

As the population of incarcerated people in the U.S. grows to over two million and the rate of African American and Latino Youth Prisoners continues to rise, students in this course will investigate the school-to-prison pipeline, the prison industrial complex, and the implications of education. Through an examination of readings in educational policy, cultural studies, history, and sociology, as well as through dialogue, debate, and fieldwork, students will consider ways to challenge prevailing assumptions about education and incarceration.
